Packing Essentials

Travel Documents

Carry your passport with at least six months' validity remaining and the necessary Chinese visa. We will arrange the visa application for you if you are applying from within the UK.

Power Converter

The electricity in mainland China and Hong Kong runs at 220V and 50Hz. Type A and Type C plus are most commonly used. Your hotel may offer a converter for free, but I would suggest having your own for convenience.

Clothing

  • Pack clothing suitable for the season and weather of your destination in China. China sits across several climate zones, so check the weather forecast for the cities you'll be visiting.
  • Don't forget to pack comfortable shoes for walking.

Medication

  • Bring any necessary prescription medication, along with a small first-aid kit containing essentials like painkillers, plasters, and antiseptic.
  • Pepto-Bismol is usually helpful if you need to settle your stomach.
  • If you have any allergies, it is essential you bring appropriate treatment (e.g. inhalers, EpiPens, and antihistamines).

Hygiene and Beauty Products

  • Many public toilets in China won't offer toilet paper/soap/towels. Tissues are sold everywhere, so no need to overload your luggage, but remember to bring some when you go the toilet.
  • To cope with the very dry weather of Western and Northern China, moisturiser can be a lifesaver.
  • Sanitary pads are more popular in Asia, if you prefer tampons it would be best to bring your own.
  • Similarly, deodorants are not commonly sold in China, you may wish to bring your own.
