Overview

About 70 kilometres northeast of Beijing, Mutianyu is the finest restored section of the Great Wall, quieter than Badaling and set among wooded hills that turn gold in autumn. This full day gives you unhurried time on the ramparts, with a cable car or chairlift to carry you up and the option of a toboggan run back down. A private car collects you from your Beijing hotel and returns you the same day.

Itinerary

Mutianyu Great Wall: Cable Car Ride to the Wall

Mutianyu Great Wall was a strategic pass built during the Ming Dynasty. The wall was built using slabs and gray bricks. This section was initially constructed 1,400 years ago during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589) and was later repaired, renovated, and expanded in the Ming Dynasty (1404).

Mutianyu Great Wall distinguishes itself with unparalleled design features. Unlike most sections of the Great Wall, which have crenellations on only one side, Mutianyu’s walls are fortified with battlements on both flanks, enabling soldiers to engage enemies from either direction.

Toboggan Ride: Widning through the trees

Beyond the historical allure of the wall itself, the Mutianyu Scenic Area offers a host of recreational activities. From cable cars and chairlifts that provide bird’s-eye views of the wall, to exhilarating downhill toboggan and a graffiti wall where visitors can leave their personal marks, all of these add an extra layer of fun to any Great Wall adventure.
