Overview

Escape Chongqing for a full day in Wulong, one of China's most dramatic UNESCO World Heritage landscapes. Drive through the limestone gorges of the Wujiang River Gallery, roam the high-altitude meadows of Fairy Mountain, and descend by lift into the valley of Asia's largest natural stone bridge cluster.

Itinerary

Wujiang River Gallery

The drive south from Chongqing follows the 319 National Road as it runs alongside the Wujiang River through a spectacular limestone gorge. Sheer cliffs rise from both banks, and the river runs green between them. This is not a ticketed attraction — it's a scenic road corridor that forms part of the drive to Wulong, with your driver stopping at viewpoints for photographs. Most visitors pass through this stretch without realising it; sitting on the river side of the vehicle makes all the difference.

Xiannv Mountain National Forest Park

Your vehicle drives directly into Fairy Mountain (Xiannu Mountain), bypassing the visitor centre coach queues on standard days. The highland plateau sits at 1,900 metres elevation — noticeably cooler than Chongqing, with broad alpine meadows, scattered pine forest, and open skies that make it one of the most photographed landscapes in southwest China.

Optional horseback riding across the grasslands is available on-site (self-pay). Lunch follows in Xiannu Town, where dozens of local restaurants line the streets — order and pay independently, or ask your driver to drop you at a restaurant you've found in advance.

Tiansheng Three Natural Bridges

The highlight of the day. Three karst sky-bridges span a single hidden gorge in sequence — Tianlong Bridge, Qinglong Bridge, and Heilong Bridge — each one a freestanding natural arch of rock worn through by underground rivers over 12 million years. Asia's largest natural bridge cluster, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your vehicle drops you directly at the scenic area entrance, avoiding the standard visitor-centre shuttle transfer on non-holiday days. Your Tiankeng (天坑) lift ticket is included in the price — take it down to the valley floor and walk beneath the three bridges looking upward. The gorge walls rise up to 350 metres above.
